A monthly publication about conservation in Missouri. Started in 1938, the printed magazine is free to residents of Missouri.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with the Ducks Unlimited Puxico Chapter, invites youth duck hunters to a mentored hunt Dec.12 from 8 a.m. To 6 p.m. at Duck Creek Conservation Area headquarters in Bollinger County. This free event is designed for beginners between the ages of 8 to 18.
Participants will learn the basics of duck hunting, including firearm safety, hunting regulations, species identification, ethical hunting practices and shooting techniques. This hands-on learning opportunity is intended to build skills and confidence while fostering a lifelong appreciation for Missouri’s hunting heritage and natural resources.
MDC staff encourage participants to dress appropriately, as the program will be held outside. Participants will meet at the Duck Creek headquarters on the morning of Dec. 12 for the clinic. Later in the afternoon, participants will be paired with an MDC duck hunting mentor and participate in a hunt until sunset.
Participants are encouraged to bring waders and either a 20-gauge or 12-gauge shotgun, along with steel shot. Hunters who do not have access to a shotgun or ammo are encouraged to contact Bollinger County Conservation Agent Clayton Lewis for more information. Agent Lewis can be reached at clayton.lewis@mdc.mo.gov.
Participation is free, but registration is required at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ogu.
