When you visit Powder Valley keep a watchful eye as you will likely catch a glimpse of a white-tailed deer. Managing the deer population has been a focus of the Missouri Department of Conservation since its founding in 1937, shifting over the decades from protection to active population control. This month’s book The Age of Deer: Trouble and Kinship with our Wild Neighbors, by Erika Howsare discusses all aspects of our relationships, such as ecology, poetry, pop culture and anthropology. What interactions with deer have you had? Come and share your experiences.
