BRANSON, Mo. – Keeping Table Rock Lake clean is important to all who enjoy fishing, boating, and other forms of recreation at this popular southwest Missouri reservoir. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is recognizing The Harbor Marina for the special steps it’s taking to keep sewage out of Table Rock.
On Thursday, June 27, MDC Fisheries staff presented a $61,000 check to Pat Cox of The Harbor Marina. The check, which provides reimbursement for installation of mobile pump-out facilities, was issued as part of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s Clean Vessel Act grant program. This grant program is part of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Sport Fish Restoration Program and is administered in Missouri by MDC.
The Harbor Marina is receiving this money because of improvements made to its on-shore pump-out facilities and the purchase of a 23-foot mobile pump-out boat. The marina already had one pump-out boat, but the new pump-out vessel will allow marina staff to reach a greater number of recreational boaters. A pump-out boat is a craft that pulls up to other boats and receives waste into its holding tank. The pump-out boat then takes the waste to a fixed unit at a dock or a shore area where the waste can be unloaded into sewer lines or to an on-shore holding tank for disposal.
“Increasing access to pump-out facilities or boats helps everyone and everything on Table Rock – people, fish, and water. We all live downstream,” said Laura Ruman, a fisheries programs supervisor for the Missouri Department of Conservation.
