El Dorado Springs, Mo. – A prescribed burn can help land managers safety use fire to achieve management goals for forage or improved wildlife habitat in grasslands, woodlands and forests. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free prescribed burn workshop 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 10, at the El Dorado Springs Community Center, 135 W. Spring St.

MDC is offering the workshop in partnership with the St. Clair County Soil & Water Conservation District. Lunch will be provided. If weather permits a demonstration burn will be conducted after lunch. Participants in the demonstration burn are asked to dress for the outdoors, wear leather boots, and bring leather gloves.

Workshop instructors will talk about burn benefits for grasslands, smoke management, weather factors for burns, timing burns, planning burns, personnel and equipment, and follow-up evaluations.

Participants are asked to register for the workshop by March 6 so staff can make a count for lunch and materials. To register, call 417-646-8108, ext. 3. Reservations can also be made by calling MDC’s El Dorado Springs office, 417-876-5226
