MDC offers forestry field day in Miller County
COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is hosting a forestry field day for Missouri foresters, landowners and loggers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 19 in Miller County. The workshop is free and lunch will be provided, however participants must pre-register by Dec. 17.
“This is a great opportunity for both landowners and loggers to learn about practices that will help them protect their soil and forest resource when conducting a timber sale,” said MDC Forest Products Program Supervisor Jason Jensen.
Topics at the field day will include pre-sale planning of roads, landings and skid trails, how to build water bars with conventional harvesting equipment, cost-share opportunities, and proper implementation of what MDC refers to as “Best Management Practices.”
Best management practices, or BMPs, are voluntary measures that were developed as a guide for loggers and landowners to combine safe logging practices with steps that avoid damage to water quality and soil erosion associated with timber harvesting.
The workshop will meet at the Temp Stop Truck Stop at the junction of Highways 52 and 54.
