The Eagle State

image of American Bald eagleAn adult bald eagle scans the clear waters of the Niangua River for fish. Only adult eagles--at least 4 or 5 years old--have the white head distinctive of the species. Decades ago eagles wintered in Missouri but nested elsewhere. We now have more than 50 nesting pairs in Missouri. --Jim Rathert
