Northern Cardinal

A male northern cardinal perches in a ninebark shrub as it soaks up the warming rays of the morning sun. During winter, many birds seek out brushy areas for food and protection from the wind and cold. "Missouri Conservation Trees and Shrubs" provides detailed information about the kinds of trees and shrubs that provide food and cover for wildlife. You can obtain a free copy by writing to Conservation Trees and Shrubs, P.O. Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0180.
