Ruffed Grouse

Poised on his drumming log, a male ruffed grouse resembles a maestro conducting a Missouri springtime symphony. Surrounded by a morning chorus of migrant bird songs, he beats out a resonant, muffled drum beat with his wings to attract hens for mating. -- Jim Rathert
