MDC offers prescribed burn workshop at Poosey CA

Jamesport, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a workshop and demonstration on using prescribed burns to improve habitat beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Poosey Conservation Area in northwest Livingston County. The site is on the west side of Indian Creek Community Lake on the area and reached via Route U.

The workshop is free, but advance registration by Jan. 16 is requested. Participants will learn how to safely conduct a prescribed burn using controlled fire to help manage CRP fields and to boost native plants and habitat useful to wildlife. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. A demonstration burn will be conducted if weather permits. Participants should wear leather boots and bring leather gloves.
