SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Fire can be a beneficial land management tool when used in controlled and supervised conditions. However, prescribed fire requires advanced planning and on-site management.

If you’re interested in learning how to use fire as a management tool on your land, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a prescribed burn workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the MDC Southwest Regional Office in Springfield, 2630 N. Mayfair Ave. This free workshop is for landowners who are interested in learning how to conduct prescribed burns properly and safely on their property with the goal of improving wildlife habitat. It is a pre-requisite for landowners who wish to enroll in prescribed fire cost-share programs.

Call MDC’s Southwest Regional Office at 417-895-6880 to register for this workshop. The registration deadline for this event is Feb. 16. More information about prescribed fire and other conservation-oriented land management strategies can be found at mdc.mo.gov.
