KANSAS CITY, MO -- Ecology and philosophy were interwoven for Aldo Leopold, who helped shaped America’s modern conservation movement with his writings including the landmark 1949 book, “A Sand County Almanac.”
On July 21, the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center will host a movie chronicling his life and lasting influence: “Green Fire ̶ Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time.” The Discovery Center will also host activities and hands-on workshops dedicated to applying conservation in daily lives.
MDC is celebrating 75 years of serving nature and people, and “Green Fire” is being offered to the public as part of that legacy. Photography of nature and landscapes in the film is beautiful. The story of Leopold’s life and his role in conservation history is fascinating. The event is free.
Leopold’s Legacy activities will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave., in Kansas City. “Green Fire” will be shown in the center’s auditorium at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
