St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a free ice fishing workshop 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Happy Holler Lake Conservation Area. This workshop is dependent on weather conditions and will be canceled if ice conditions are not favorable or if temperatures are too cold.

Ice fishing is a good way to catch fish in winter. But knowing what species of fish to target and what areas under the ice are productive is helpful. This will be a hands-on workshop. Participants can bring their own gear or use bait and tackle supplied by MDC. Anglers should dress for cold weather for the on-ice portion of the workshop.

Please pre-register by calling 816-271-3100. Happy Holler Lake is in Andrew County northeast of Savannah. Information about the area is available at http://on.mo.gov/1nAFYfx.
