Connect to Cape Girardeau Nature Center with a text

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center has added text alerts to the methods Southeast Missourians can use to keep track of events at the center. By texting the word “nature” to 91212, subscribers will receive up to two texts per week to remind them of free family fun events at the Nature Center.

“We have a lot of people tell us they wanted to attend an event but forgot, or didn’t know it was happening,” said Sara Turner, Nature Center Manager. “This is another way we’re trying to serve the area and make sure everyone has an opportunity to discover nature.”

The Nature Center also has a quarterly newsletter that is sent via email to subscribers and a schedule of events for the center is online at mdc.mo.gov/node/297.

The Conservation Nature Center is located within Cape Girardeau's North County Park and showcases the rich cultural history and diverse natural resources of Southeast Missouri. The center features hands-on exhibits for all ages, , freshwater aquariums, and an indoor wildlife viewing area. The adjacent “White Oak Trace” is two miles of nature trails allowing visitors to traverse rolling river hills with sinkholes, deep hollows, and ravines covered with prominent stands of poplar and oak.

The center’s many public programs, workshops and special events welcome all ages and sizes of groups. Turner said programs at the Nature Center are free of cost to visitors because the center is operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation, a state agency supported by fishing and hunting license revenues and the statewide 1/8-of-one percent “Design for Conservation” sales tax. There is also no admission charge.
