The Missouri Conservation Commission met Feb. 19 and 20 at Conservation Department Headquarters, 2901 W. Truman Blvd. in Jefferson City. Commissioners present were:

The Commission received the following presentations:

  • Lake Renovation Plan from MDC Fisheries Division Chief Brian Canaday.
  • Missouri Natural Areas Program from MDC Natural Areas Coordinator Mike Leahy.
  • Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation Update from MCHF Executive Director Chris Vitello.
  • MDC Website Redesign from MDC Digital Communications Manager Chris Cloyd.
  • Feral Hogs in Missouri from MDC Wildlife Management Chief Joel Porath.
  • Fiscal Year 2015 Mid-Year Review of Major Construction Projects from MDC Design and Development Division Chief Jacob Careaga.
  • Fiscal Year 2015 Mid-Year Review of Information Technology Projects from MDC Information Technology Services Chief Doug Fees.
  • Fiscal Year 2015 Mid-Year Review of Revenue and Expenditure Trends from MDC Chief Financial Officer Margie Mueller.

 

REGULATIONS

The Commission approved amendments to the Wildlife Code of Missouri that set specific parameters for the use of Conibear® traps, clarified the Code related to the incidental viewing of wildlife when unintentionally exposed to artificial light, allow all permits to be carried in electronic format, adjusted rules regarding concealed carry endorsements to be consistent with the recent change in the law, set area-specific regulations, and establish length limits for spotted bass on Truman Lake.

 

ADMINISTRATION

The Commission:

  • Approved the designation of three new Missouri Natural Areas and removal of one from the Missouri Natural Areas System.
  • Approved entering into a contract with Bill Sullivan Excavation, Inc. of Silex, Missouri, for construction of the Ted Shanks Conservation Area three-phase electric pump station project located in Pike County.
  • Approved entering into a contract with Branco Enterprises, Inc. of Neosho, Missouri, for the construction of the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery auxiliary water supply connection project located in Taney County.
  • Approved a work-plan proposal from Taylor Studios of Rantoul, Illinois, for fabrication of exhibit features at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center located in Jackson County.
  • Approved the sale of an estimated 886,586 board feet of timber located on 391 acres of Compartment 6, Deer Ridge Conservation Area in Lewis County.
  • Approved the exchange of 0.6 acre of Angeline Conservation Area in Shannon County for a 0.6-acre parcel in Shannon County as an addition to Angeline Conservation Area.
  • Approved the disposal of approximately 43.17 acres in Pemiscot County.
  • Approved nominations for induction into the Missouri Conservation Hall of Fame for Edwin 'Ed" H. Glaser and Richard "Dick" W. Vaught.
  • Approved the suspension of hunting, fishing, or trapping privileges of the following individuals for violations of the Wildlife Code of Missouri:
    • Peter H. Hickel, Robertsville, Class II Wildlife Breeder Permit for 1 year;
    • Jonathan C. Myrtle, Butler, Fishing for 1 year;
    • Long T. Nguyen, Springfield, Fishing for 1 year;
    • Daniel Tran, Jefferson City, Fishing for 1 year.
  • Approved the suspension or revocation of all hunting, fishing, and trapping privileges of 598 individuals who are not in compliance with applicable child support laws.
  • Approved the suspension or revocation of one or more hunting, fishing, and trapping privileges of 730 individuals in accordance with the terms of the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact.
  • Approved the suspension of hunting privileges of one individual who inflicted injury to another person while hunting and required completion of a hunter education training course.
  • Set the next regular Commission meeting for April 16 and 17, 2015.
  • Adjourned the meeting.
