SPRINGFIELD Mo -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and City Utilities of Springfield are hosting a clean-up day at Fellows Lake from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.

The lake level is currently low, which provides a great opportunity to pick up litter along the shoreline in an area that’s normally under water. If you enjoy fishing, kayaking, running, walking or having picnics at this reservoir on the north side of Springfield, come out to the lake for a few hours to pick up litter and keep this outdoor resource a beautiful place.

Those who plan to help with the clean-up need to meet at the Gate 3 parking lot near the marina (located on the north side of the lake). MDC staff will be passing out trash bags. Volunteers are invited to come any time between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and help for as long as they wish. MDC staff will give a short presentation about fishing at Fellows Lake at 11 a.m. Clean-up volunteers should bring gloves, water to drink and a picnic lunch if they want to enjoy lunch at the lake.

For individuals who want to use their boats to help with the March 5 cleanup, Fellows Lake Marina staff will grant a one-day waiver of the $35 boat permit fee that’s normally required by City Utilities to operate a motorized boat at Fellows. Boat operators need to remember that the boats at Fellows Lake cannot have motors over 40 hp.
