- See a remnant of old-growth forest that would have been a common sight along the river bluffs of the Missouri River at the time of Lewis and Clark’s “Voyage of Discovery.”
- Look for a variety of woodpeckers utilizing the abundance of snags and cavity trees.
- Enjoy colorful displays of ephemeral spring wildflowers and fall tree leaves.
Natural Features Description:
Located on steep river hills terrain, this forest supports mesophytic tree species such as basswood, sugar maple, northern red oak, and white ash.
The Pinnacles
Points of Interest:
- View a unique Ozarkian geologic formation in north Missouri.
- Explore the strongly sinuous Rocky Fork and Silver Fork Creeks.
- Look for crinoids, fossils of ancient sea animals.
Natural Features Description:
About 250 million years ago Boone County was covered by a shallow sea. This sea teemed with life and the fossilized remains of these ancient sea creatures are preserved in the Burlington limestone bedrock that composes the “Pinnacles” rock formations here.

You must have a trout permit to keep trout during other times of the year.
Trout may be taken by pole and line using all types of lures and baits under statewide limits, except during the dates listed below.
November 1 - January 31:
Catch-and-release only for trout.
Only flies, artificial lures and unscented soft plastic baits are allowed.
