Meetings/Special Use

Please welcome “Birds and Butterflies,

and Other Nature Scenes of Missouri” by artist, Joseph Parish.

This exhibit is multimedia, with the various works being done in classic

watercolor, opaque watercolor (French Gouache), acrylic, oils, and

photography.

The work is inspired mostly from original photographs taken by the artist in

Missouri and the Midwest ranging from his own backyard to the Mississippi

Flyway.

Meetings/Special Use

Come visit during the month of May to see artwork from a local homeschool group, featured in our auditorium. This groups loves to meet up to hike, play, and learn about the outside world together. They believe that time in nature is valuable even on the not-so-beautiful days. Various artwork pieces will be represented.

Migratory Bird Hunting

With teal season starting next month its important to be prepared to hunt for one of the fastest waterfowl in Missouri! We’ll go over what types of teal you can expect to see and the equipment and decoys that will make your hunt a success. Participants will receive the virtual program link at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. Please ensure your MDC account includes an accurate email address so that you can receive this link.

Nature Art

Little Acorns

Cruising on land or swimming in the water, turtles have been around for a long time. Check out these scaly, shelled animals as we learn what makes turtles special. Little Acorns programs are designed to help children ages 3-6 learn about the natural world through hands on experiences, crafts, and focused free-play activities.

Want to take dove poppers to the next level? Then enjoy learning how to make dove chile rellenos. During this program we’ll learn about what cuts is best to use from a dove along with the best way to make dove chile rellenos.

Amphibians and Reptiles

With the arrival of fall the next generation of many of our reptile species will start hatching. In this presentation we’ll go over which reptiles are hatching and what they look like to be able to distinguish them from each other. Participants will receive the virtual program link at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. Please ensure your MDC account includes an accurate email address so that you can receive this link.

Conservation Families

Summer is truly in full swing! Take a break from the heat to enjoy the water on scenic Lake Girardeau. This program is an opportunity to get your friends or family out on the water. Participants will receive basic instruction and then borrow one of our canoes for a morning on the lake. We will not be paddling as a group and your party may go at their own pace. MDC staff will be on the water to assist in emergencies. If you wish to bring your own fishing supplies and have a valid permit you are welcome to fish during your time on the water.

Nature Art

This class is a series of 12 programs that meets once each month, all year long. You will learn simple, but beautiful, embroidery techniques as we explore some iconic, as well as secretive wildflowers in Missouri. These flowers will range from our Ozark mountain glades to our lowland swamps. Attending each class will acquaint you with each flower’s habitat needs, bloom period, and light requirements. In addition, you will learn more about who pollinates the plant and who might depend on the plant for food.
