BROOKFIELD Mo - A free workshop on using prescribed burns to improve wildlife habitat and control unwanted vegetation will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Brookfield Career Center, 122 N. Pershing Drive.

Land owners and managers are invited to learn proper methods for implementing controlled burns, how to develop burn plans, where to get burn equipment and how to use equipment. A controlled burn is a set fire, yet tightly managed under proper wind and humidity conditions, that helps boost native prairie plants and remove invasive plants or unwanted woody vegetation.

The workshop is offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Linn County office of the Natural Resource Conservation Service. A brown-bag lunch will be provided for registered participants. Register by Feb. 23 by calling Brent Vandeloecht at 660-258-5732, ext. 111.
