St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host free Park After Dark nature hikes from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, at the Mark Youngdahl Urban Conservation Area in St. Joseph. The guided hikes will begin every half hour. Shelby Smith, MDC naturalist, will lead visitors on a not-spooky walk to enjoy nature’s sounds and sights at night.

A Trunk or Treat event will kick-off the event at 6 p.m. in the area’s east parking lot. Hikes will be on a paved and accessible trail. Families are welcome, and the trail is stroller friendly. Costumes are encouraged for the youngsters, and the grownups should feel free to wear costumes, too. This hike will mix the fun of the Halloween season with nature lore. Youngsters can enjoy Halloween craft stations.

Youngdahl Conservation Area is in the heart of St. Joseph. The main entrance is off 36th Street between Faron/Jules and Messanie streets. No registration is required. COVID-19 precautions will be followed. For more information, call MDC’s Northwest Regional Office at 816-271-3100.
