SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Involving the public continues to be a key component of the Springfield Conservation Nature Center’s area management plan as the planning process enters its next phase.

Beginning June 1, the Missouri Department of Conservation will be seeking public comments on the Nature Center’s draft 10-year area management plan. The plan is posted at http://www.mdc.mo.gov/areaplans . People can also request to read a copy of the plan and fill out comment cards that are available at the Nature Center’s front desk. The public comment period for the draft plan is June 1-30.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center’s area management plan will serve as a plan for the property with a focus on land and aquatic resource management and public use rather than on educational programs. The Missouri Department of Conservation will consider all comments received and will work to balance the issues and interests identified with the responsibility of managing the area for the present and future benefits to forest, fish, wildlife and the public.

The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is located in southeast Springfield at 4601 S. Nature Center Way. More information about the facility can be obtained by calling 417-888-4237 or at http://www.mdc.mo.gov/node/287.
