MDC “Showboat” to show outdoor movies at Springfield Nature Center

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Bring the entire family to enjoy a night of nature movies under the stars on Friday, Sept. 20, and Friday, Sept. 27, at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center’s “Conservation Showboat – Outdoor Movie Night Program.” The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. both nights and feature movies projected from the Missouri Department of Conservation’s first public information vehicle – a restored 1946 Chevrolet panel wagon called the “Showboat.”

First launched in 1937, the Department of Conservation’s “Showboat” vehicles were used to help educate Missourians about the danger of wildfires.

The evening’s entertainment on Sept. 20 will have nature movies that are fun for all ages. “A Snake’s Tale" will begin the evening and runs 20 minutes. The feature presentation will be “Green Fire – Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic For Our Time" and runs 74 minutes. On Sept. 27, the movies will be “Just Kiddin’ Around” that runs 23 minutes, and “A Sense of Wonder – An Evening with Rachel Carson” that runs 55 minutes.

Bring lawn chairs, blankets and non-alcoholic beverages. Nature Center staff will provide the popcorn.
