Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Missouri Community Forestry Council recently recognized Martha Clark of Helena for outstanding service to community tree programs in the St. Joseph area.
Clark was honored with a 2016 Arbor Award on March 9 at the Forestry Council's annual conference in St. Joseph. Presenting the awards were Missouri State Forester Lisa Allen and Missouri Community Forestry Council Chair Casey Jo Kellner.
Lonnie Messbarger, MDC resource forester, said Clark has long worked to promote healthy trees in St. Joseph and the surrounding region. She has provided expertise and encouragement to many tree planting and Arbor Day projects. A former St. Joseph city employee, she is now a certified arborist and consulting urban forester who encourages people to actively care for their trees. Clark recently assisted the South St. Joseph Progressive Association with their observance of the city's Hyde Park centennial, which included planting 100 trees in the historic park.
