St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a free prescribed fire workshop from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, at the Lager Building on the Barton Farm Campus of North Central Missouri College near Trenton. This workshop will help land managers learn how to use prescribed fire as an aid in managing wildlife habitat, forage pastures, and CRP grasslands.

Participants will learn about the benefits of fire to natural systems, and how to achieve desired management results with fire. The history of fire on the pre-settlement landscape will be discussed. Experts will teach how to develop fire plans, safety measures, what equipment is needed, fire scenarios, and how to form fire team cooperatives.

Pre-registration is required by Feb. 5. To register, contact MDC Private Land Conservationist Scott Roy at 660-359-5685, ext. 114, or Scott.Roy@mdc.mo.gov.
