LEBANON, Mo. – When used in controlled, supervised conditions, fire can be a beneficial land management tool. However, it’s important to stress that prescribed fire involves planning and on-site management.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a prescribed burn workshop in Lebanon on Feb. 15, 6-9 p.m. at the Laclede Electric Coop building, 1400 E. Route 66.

This free workshop is for landowners who are interested in learning how to conduct prescribed burns properly and safely on their property with the goal of restoring native vegetation and improving wildlife habitat. Prescribed fire can also provide benefits for grazing livestock and other agricultural needs. This workshop is a pre-requisite for landowners who wish to enroll in prescribed fire cost-share programs.

To register for this workshop, contact MDC Resource Forester Steven Laval at 417-532-7612, ext. 6343 or at Steven.laval@mdc.mo.gov. Information about prescribed fire can be found at mdc.mo.gov/prescribedfire.
