SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – April 22 is Earth Day – an opportunity to reflect on the role people play in caring for our outdoor resources. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has events scheduled on the weekend leading up to this special day in the southwest part of of the state to show why our outdoor resources are special and need to be cared for.
April 20, Branson: People are invited to come to MDC’s Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about a number of species of concern in this region. Free tree seedlings and a limited number of milkweed plants will be available for individuals to take home. Informational booths will be spread over the hatchery grounds. No registration is required for this event. For more information, call 417-334-4865, ext. 0. The Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery is located at 483 Hatchery Road on the west end of Lake Taneycomo near Branson.
April 20, Springfield: Activities are scheduled most of the day at MDC’s Springfield Conservation Nature Center. The Little Acorn program “Earth Day Everyday” will be from 10-10:45 a.m. and from 11:15 a.m.-noon. This program, which is for ages 3-6, will focus on what people can do to help plants and animals in the wild. Elsewhere at the Springfield Nature Center, people can walk the trails to answer nature-themed trivia questions or can make an Earth Day craft in the auditorium from 1:30-4 p.m. No registration is required for these events.
