El Dorado Springs, Mo. – Farm profits and wildlife can both benefit when cattle growers use prairie grasses in grazing systems. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a free Native Warm Season Grass Grazing Workshop on Friday, Aug. 18, at the El Dorado Springs Community Center, 135 W. Spring St. Cattle grazing topics will be discussed at the community center from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Then from 1 to 3 p.m., attendees will tour a local farm where cattle are grazing on native warm season grasses.
Experts will cover topics such as the biological and management differences between warm season and cool season grasses. Also covered will be animal performance grazing native warm season grasses and how to establish them for forage. Biologists will also talk about how native grasses benefit wildlife. After a lunch break, the farm tour will begin.
This workshop is offered by MDC and partners including the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever. Attendees are asked to RSVP by Aug. 14. To RSVP or for more information, call 417-876-5226.
