KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a free youth turkey hunting clinic on Friday, April 8, followed by a guided hunt on Saturday, April 9. The clinic will take place from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at the Fox River Gun Club in Kahoka.
The clinic, designed for first-time turkey hunters, ages 11 – 15 years, will teach turkey hunting basics, such as:
"This is an awesome opportunity for new hunters to go turkey hunting with an experienced guide, learn about turkeys, and maybe even harvest one," said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver. "These clinics teach valuable skills to first-time turkey hunters, and help kids discover the joys of the hunt."
At the clinic, youth hunters will practice shooting shotguns and calling-in turkeys, and will meet their hunting guides. Each hunter must attend the clinic on April 8 in order to participate in the hunt on April 9.
Saturday, April 9, the kids will start the morning early by going hunting with their guides. Lunch will be provided after the hunt, and a group picture will follow. MDC will provide shotguns and ammunition to those who need them.
