Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) on Dec. 9 presented a $178,000 check to the city of Raymore to help pay for recent fishing access improvements at Johnston Lake. The grant paid for 75% of construction costs for a floating fishing dock, a concrete fishing pier, a restroom, and a sidewalk.
This reimbursement was made through the federal Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program, which MDC administers for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Raymore is a partner in MDC’s Community Assistance Program that provides fishing, boating, and fisheries management assistance to cities and counties. For example, MDC recently stocked rainbow trout for winter fishing in Johnston Lake. The lake is in Hawk Ridge Park in northwestern Cass County. MDC just added an addition city of Raymore lake to the Community Assistance Program, the one-acre Recreation Park Pond.
