COLUMBIA, Mo.  – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has begun construction this week on access roads at Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area in Boone County. The road work will close access to the shooting range and some parking lots for the duration of the project.

Construction is set for completion sometime during the week of Dec. 19. Until then, access will be closed to the shooting range, boat ramp, and all parking lots on the south side of Rocky Fork Lake. The disabled accessible fishing access, parking lot and restroom on the north side of the lake will remain open, as well as parking lots on Mount Zion Church Road and Patricia Road. All trails will remain open, and the conservation area will otherwise remain open for normal use.

Crews began digging out old outflow culverts on the south side of Rocky Fork Lake Monday morning. The old culverts sustained heavy damage during large rainfall events over many years.  New concrete culverts will help ensure proper water flow from Rocky Fork Lake and safe vehicle passage.

Located on more than 2,000 acres, east of Highway 63 on Peabody Road, north of Columbia, Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area offers ample opportunities for fishing, hiking, shooting, and other outdoor activities.
