MOSCOW MILLS, Mo.—Managing healthy forests and woodlands is part of a holistic approach that benefits everything from trees and songbirds to streams and wildlife. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is teaming up with a number of key partners to present an educational opportunity for landowners to help them derive the most benefit from their timbered land.
Working for Woods and Wildlife: A Woodland Workshop will take place Saturday, March 24 from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in Moscow Mills at the 9th Grade Center, 80 Elm Tree Road. This educational workshop will enable landowners to better manage, utilize, and enjoy their forest and timber resources. This all-day event will involve concurrent sessions on key woodland related topics aimed at helping participants reach their land management goals.
“The cool thing about this workshop is that it’s so diverse, offering classes on such a wide variety of topics,” said MDC Private Land Conservationist Jeff Esely.
Following registration, opening remarks, including a brief history of forestry in Missouri, and multiple concurrent sessions throughout the day will cover topics including:
The workshop includes lunch, along with a lunchtime presentation on invasive species. Natural resource experts will provide an overview of the major invasive plants impacting our woods and management strategies for controlling their spread.
“There will be something here for anyone who owns woodlands to help improve their property and meet their land management goals,” Esely said.

This workshop has been made possible through MDC funding and a Natural Resources Conservation Service Grant. Other partners include the USDA Lincoln/Montgomery/Pike/Warren Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the Missouri Tree Farm Association.
