CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Dove season opens on Saturday (Sept. 1) and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reminds dove hunters that they may not legally hunt in two states on the same day and fill both states' hunting limits on doves.

According to Title 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 20.11, the aggregate daily bag limit is equal to, but shall not exceed, the largest daily bag limit prescribed for any one species or for any one specified geographic area in which taking occurs.

“This means hunters must choose one area [state] to hunt and take only that area’s limit of doves,” said MDC Protection Supervisor for the Southeast Region Ken West.

West added that hunters are responsible for knowing the hunting regulations before they take to the dove fields.

“Conservation agents will be enforcing these limits, so we hope hunters will take the necessary time to know the regulations and follow them,” he said.

For 2012, the daily bag limit of doves is 15, with an overall possession limit of 30. Missouri dove hunting regulations and information can be found in the 2012 Migratory Bird Hunting Digest, which is available where hunting permits are sold, at MDC offices and online at mdc.mo.gov.
