Eagle Days welcomes wildlife watchers to Squaw Creek refuge

MOUND CITY, Mo. -- Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge will host the 34th annual Eagle Days events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 30 – Dec. 2. Live captive eagles shows and special wildlife exhibits will be offered. But the feature attractions each year are the migrating waterfowl and bald eagles that can be seen at the refuge’s wetlands.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is a partner in presenting the event along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Squaw Creek is north of St. Joseph and reached off Interstate 29 at Exit 72, west on U.S. 159.

Friday’s events are reserved for school groups that have made arrangements to participate in advance.

On Saturday and Sunday, Eagle Days activities will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a driving tour of the refuge wetlands. Spotting scopes will be set up at some locations to help visitors spot eagles and wildlife.

Programs with live, captive eagles will be begin on Saturday each hour on the hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Sunday, the live eagle programs will be offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
