St. LOUIS, Mo.—The Saturday portion of The Eagle Days at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge Festival has been cancelled due to hazardous weather forecasts. The event is still scheduled for Sunday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. if weather conditions allow.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high probability for periods of sleet and freezing rain in the St. Louis Area Friday night and Saturday. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Saturday and recommends avoiding all unnecessary road travel.
Eagle Days at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge is hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Great Rivers Greenway and sponsored by Cabela’s.
“Even though getting the chance to see bald eagles at the bridge is a magnificent experience, public safety is our first priority,” said MDC Education Consultant Mathew Magoc, lead organizer of the festival.
In addition to the Sunday activities at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, MDC will also offer an Eagle Days Festival in Clarksville at Lock and Dam Number 24. It takes place Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 29 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Clarksville is an exceptional location for eagle viewing. Visitors can see bald eagles through spotting scopes and at live eagle programs presented by the World Bird Sanctuary, along with many other educational activities.
