PUXICO, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) announces it will temporarily close Pool 1 on Duck Creek Conservation Area (CA) to ensure safety while angler access is improved on the pool. Plants such as American lotus, spatterdock, white water lily, and the floating components of water shield will be removed across an estimated 75 acres of the pool. This removal will create multiple boat lanes on the south end of the pool and in front of the new fishing docks.

Keith Cordell, the area manager, said the target work window includes the weeks of June 2 and 9. “We hope our area visitors will be patient with us, as this window of opportunity may change depending on the weather,” he said.

Cordell said the pool will only close for a portion of the day when the work takes place, although he is uncertain which day and how long it will take. “As soon as the work is complete, we’ll allow anglers to resume fishing on Pool 1,” Cordell said.

Improving conservation areas to heighten outdoor recreation opportunities is part of the Conservation Department’s mission to help people discover nature. To check access to Duck Creek CA, visit mdc.mo.gov.
