Discover Nature at Eagle Adventure at MDC Runge Nature Center

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) encourages eagle-lovers of all ages to visit Runge Conservation Nature Center’s program Eagle Adventures from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 25. This program is free and open to the public.

Eagle Adventures features activities to entertain and educate the whole family. Eagle activities and crafts will be available in the Runge lobby and staff from the Dickerson Park Zoo will be hosting a live eagle presentation at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Experts from the zoo will talk about eagle ecology and life habits as they display the eagles.

Additionally, live eagle viewing will be available outdoors at the Marion Access on Highway 179. MDC staff and volunteers will set up spotting scopes, have hot chocolate on hand and be available to help visitors locate and watch eagles in the area.

“Every winter, the show-me-state welcomes record numbers of bald eagles and boasts some of the most plentiful viewing areas in all of the lower 48 states,” said Runge Nature Center Manager Kathy Cavender. “Eagle adventures are a fun way for the whole family to discover nature and learn more about our nation’s symbol. Just make sure to bundle up for the outdoor eagle viewing.”

Runge Nature Center is located on Hwy 179 in Jefferson City approximately .5 mile north of Hwy 50. Building hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. The building is closed on Sunday and Monday. The outdoor trails are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
