CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites you to "Enjoy the Harvest" this year at the SEMO District Fair. MDC's exhibits at the fair will feature activities centered on enjoying the harvest in Missouri.

"We'll have community photos on display, we'll have recipes people can take with them, and our exhibits are focused on celebrating how our state is a great place to hunt and fish," said Candice Davis, an MDC media specialist.

The MDC pavilion will host Smokey Bear, the Operation Game Thief exhibit, and feature a life-size turkey blind for children to explore, Davis said. Live fish will be on display and there will be a focus on wild edibles and how to identify them.

"Many people don't realize how much we depend on our natural communities for things that truly enrich our lives. Wood forest products are an extremely valuable harvest in our state that many people don't regularly consider," Davis said. "We invite people to stop by our pavilion at the fair to get ideas of how they can enrich their hunting and fishing this year, and also consider how they use items from the forest even more often than they might head to the woods to hunt."

From forests to fish, Davis said visitors to the MDC pavilion will leave with an enthusiasm to enjoy the harvest.

The SEMO District Fair will be in Cape Girardeau Sept. 6-13 with daily hours from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. For more information on events at the SEMO District Fair, go online to SemoFair.com.
