Immature Bald Eagles

Published on: Feb. 4, 2013

Williamsville, Mo. -- On Jan. 30 a landowner near Williamsville reported an injured immature bald eagle on his property. The eagle was captured and transported to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for treatment. Unfortunately, the eagle died that night. An examination revealed that the bird was shot.

“Shooting and killing a bald eagle is a senseless act and one that authorities take very seriously,” said Mic Plunkett, Wayne County conservation agent for the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).

Bald eagles are protected by both state and federal laws. Persons with information about this incident are urged to call MDC’s Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-800-392-1111 or their local conservation agent. Callers can remain anonymous and rewards are available.
