During this holiday season of sharing, how about starting a new family tradition by helping to feed some of the wild animals during Missouri’s harsh winter. We will create edible ornaments just for the animals of Burr Oak Woods, then head outdoors to decorate the perfect tree with them!

Join community forester Chuck Conner as he teaches how to identify trees when they're "naked." Participants will learn the basics of tree identification. Students will learn how to use reference books and keys to help identify trees in both a classroom setting and in the field. Special emphasis will be given to the identification of native deciduous trees in the "leaf-off" or dormant condition.

Please wear clothing appropriate for going outdoors for approximately one hour. A Missouri

Join us at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center and learn to clean, and prepare your trout.

Staff will demonstrate some easy methods of cleaning trout, then participants will have a hands on opportunity to clean some trout themselves. We'll prepare those trout for everyone to sample using some favorite and delicious methods.

Each participant must register separately. Contact instructor for assistant with registration.

Are you curious about the MR340, it's the longest non stop paddle race in the world. However, it's still do able by novice racers and even people who consider themselves "paddlers". Since the race course is the Missouri River it's right in the backyard of most Missouri residents. This program is appropriate for MR340 racers, ground crew members and people who are just interested in learning what it takes to paddle across the state of Missouri in less than four days.

We will discuss the history of the race, Types of boats, whether to go solo or as a team, how to prepare, what to expect along the way, what to take with you and what to leave at home, dangers on the river - real and perceived, weather, day paddling/night paddling, goals, can I sleep, do I need a ground crew, ramp volunteers, community involvement, and nature along the river.

Each participant is required to register for this program separately, contact the instructor for assistance with registration.
