Beginning Trap Shooting

(Ages 11 & up)

Reservations begin April 30.

This program is designed for those who have had some experience with shotguns. We will cover safety, appropriate guns and ammunition, rules of the game, etiquette on the field, and field layout. Firearms and ammunition will be provided, or you may bring your own. An adult must accompany participants under 18.

During this canoeing program we will learn about paddling equipment, paddling safety, and how to paddle a canoe on a lake. All paddling and safety equipment will be provided. Please meet at the Pavilion at the Bellefontaine Conservation Area. Participants must be able to swim to participate in this event. Ages 9 and up, participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us July 30th for Backpacking Preparation 101 to learn what and how to pack for a hiking adventure as well as what features to look for in a backpack and fun places to explore in Missouri.

Is there a better way to spend a summer day than spending time outdoors? Join us as we sample different ways you can enjoy conservation right in your own backyard. We will spend time learning about the different plants and animals of Missouri, practicing mini archery and other fun activities in the comfort of the nature center and the surrounding woods.

This minicamp will take place at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center. Please bring a water bottle, a lunch, and any other supplies that you might need for the duration of the camp.

Please register each camper that is planning to attend.

*Parents/guardians will receive a waiver for each camper. Parents/guardians will drop-off campers via waiver and emergency contact form.

The compass is an excellent tool to help you reach your destination, identify your location, and map your route. Learn how to do all three by joining us at Warrenton Pool Park Pavilion for this free orienteering program. Included will be a treasure hunt for free giveaways. This event will take place outdoors, so be sure to come prepared with proper footwear, clothing attire for gravel trails, water, and potentially hot weather.

All planning to attend the event should register separately. Children younger than sixteen years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Scouts will be able to visit multiple stations and complete activities that will satisfy a multitude of badges. The following stations will be on site:

This event is designed for Scouts of America and Girl Scouts.

Scouts are responsible for securing Merit Badge Counselors for the event.

Scouts must bring their Merit Badge Cards.

Location: Claire Gempp Davidson Memorial Wildlife Area

Explore the pond and prairie life at Claire Gempp Davidson Memorial Wildlife Area. You will become a citizen scientist as we net for pond life, trap small mammals, collect and identify insects, and look for wildlife signs. If you have a smart phone, download the Seek by iNaturalist app. We will discuss this free, kid/teen friendly app!

Wear clothes that can get wet and muddy, bring sunscreen, bug spray, a sack lunch, and water.

Parents/guardians will sign a waiver prior to camp. Parents/guardians may leave their child with us via the waiver/emergency contact form. Please register each child separately. Masks will be worn when social distancing is not feasible.

We will meet at the parking lot at Claire Gempp Davidson Memorial Wildlife Area (address listed above).

Are you someone that has never shot a bow and arrow before and you’re not sure how to get started? Or maybe you did when you were young, but never pursued the activity any further. Learn the basics of shooting the bow and arrow utilizing some of the techniques and methods that have been adopted by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). This course is for those 14 years of age or older with the desire to shoot a bow and arrow, but have little or no experience. Learn archery shooting fundamentals while gaining knowledge about equipment options and choices. Note: All equipment will be provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Not recommended for adults with shoulder or back injuries.

* Classes will be CANCELLED if we encounter inclement weather — rain or heat (temps more than 90 degrees).
