At the Youth Outdoor Day kids will be able to shoot shotguns, archery, and pellet guns depending on ability. There will be waterfowl hunting scenario demos, retriever hunting dog demos, and trapping demos. A local fire department will have a truck there as well as a Highway Patrol display. Bring your own drinks for during the event but lunch and a drink during lunch will be provided. There will also be a duck calling contest, with prizes, so bring your lanyard full of calls.

This event is the stream-side certification to become a Level 1 water quality monitor with Missouri Stream Team. For attendees under the age of 18, a sponsoring adult must be present.

Location: Pikes Lake at Poosey CA

The Poosey Fall Driving Tour is a self-guided auto tour through Poosey Conservation Area. Participants will see the beautiful fall color as well as the many habitat projects that are taking place on the area. The auto tour will begin at Pikes Lake.

High clearance vehicles are suggested for travel on the area gravel roads.

This is an event for youth to come and learn about waterfowl ID, Waterfowl hunting strategies, and Shotgun shooting. Participants will arrive that morning and begin to learn about waterfowl hunting, plus shotguns shooting.

That afternoon participants will get to go on a waterfowl hunt at a local private duck club. This hunt will allow them to use the knowledge and skills that they learned that morning.

Participants must be Hunter Education certified.

The class will be entirely indoors and will include some equipment demonstrations, videos, and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and discuss prescribed burning with MDC staff. Attendees should bring with them a copy of their online training certificate and a mileage log sheet.. The doors to the classroom are located on the back side of the Brookfield High School, in the service entrance between the high school and the career center. Upon registration, participants will be given a link to the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite.

“Upon registration, participants will be given a link to the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite. Please bring your certificate of completion and Mileage sheet to the workshop. A demonstration burn will be conducted if weather allows. Please bring appropriate clothing- long sleeve shirt and pants made of natural fibers, gloves, and closed toe boots.”
