Beginning Handgun

(Ages 16 and up)

Our Beginning Handgun program includes handgun fundamentals, operation, safety, maintenance, and safe storage. We start with classroom instruction then move to the range for a live-fire session. Firearms, ammunition, and safety equipment are provided however, you may bring your own handgun and ammunition to the live-fire session. Firearms and ammunition are not allowed in the Education Center. (An adult must accompany Ages 16-18)

Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center is a natural oasis nestled within 112 acres of oak hickory forest near urban St. Louis. Join MDC Naturalist, Andy Klingensmith, for a virtual hike as we explore and discover the natural wonders found throughout this unique conservation area. This program will touch on a range of ecology topics to deepen our appreciation of Missouri’s natural resources. Topics include plant and animal ID, natural history, ecological management, and conservation philosophy. Kayaking is a great way to get outdoors and connect with nature. Join us as we learn about the equipment and techniques needed to kayak safely in Missouri before experiencing being on the water yourself.

A flat-water course will be held on Tuesday, September 26th at 5:30 pm at Binder Lake near the boat ramp before the river kayaking trip on Wednesday, September 27th on the Gasconade River from Rollins Ferry River Access to Pointers Creek Access.

Participants will meet at Runge Nature Center and be shuttled to the starting point at Rollins Ferry Access. Must arrive at Runge by 8:00 am to get shuttled to the starting point. All kayaking equipment will be provided.

Please wear closed-toe shoes, and bring a water bottle, food, sunscreen, hat, and dress in layers for the weather. Registration required. Ages 12+
