Location: Southwest Regional Office

This unique clinic is an opportunity to gain valuable fishing skills and learn how to fish from a canoe. This clinic is intended for beginner anglers who would like to learn about stream fishing while floating on the beautiful James River. No large groups-individuals only please.
The fishing trip is led by MDC staff. Canoes and transportation are provided. Participants must be at least 14, and those between 14 and 17 must be accompanied by a woman over 18. Participants 16 years of age or older must possess a Missouri fishing license. Participants must bring their own food, drinks, and supplies (hat, glasses, sun screen, bug spray, etc.). Please wear clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting wet. Participation is free.
We will be meeting at the Southwest Regional Office at 2630 N Mayfair, Springfield, MO 65803 and leaving as a group from there.

Discover the joys of shooting one of the all-time favorite rifles–the .22 rifle. We will discuss rifle nomenclature, dominant eye, sight picture, sight alignment, breath control, trigger squeeze, shooting positions, plus much more. You may use our rifles or plan to use your own. Please make sure your rifle is completely unloaded before you arrive at the range.

Southwest Missouri offers lots of opportunities to fish and enjoy the outdoors. This river fishing clinic will focus on fishing for bass species in our local waterways! We will talk about locations to fish, strategies, equipment, rules and regulations, and how to catch different species of bass. We will meet at Shoal Creek Conservation Center and after the classroom portion go down to shoal creek and fish. All students 16 and older must have a valid fishing license. All equipment will be provided buy you may bring your own!

MDC has a new regulation that now requires hunters at certain areas must use non-toxic shotshells while hunting for doves. Bois D' Arc CA is one of the newly added areas so in an attempt to assist hunters be more successful with their harvest this September we are hosting a program that teaches hunters how to shoot steel shot. This comprehensive program will teach you how to pattern test your equipment and how to make better shots which reduces wounding and increases harvest rates. Learn canoeing basics as we explore Lake Springfield. We will meet at the Southwood Access and go over canoeing strokes and safety before heading out on the water. Dress for the weather and wear shoes that can get wet. PFDs (Personal Floatation Devices) will be provided. To reach Southwood Access (on the east side of Lake Springfield, just west of the Highway 65 bridge) take the Evans Road exit off Highway 65.
