Join us for free hatchery tours this summer. Learn how trout are raised from egg collecting all the way to release for public fishing. Tours run Monday through Friday at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 2 pm. Tours start at the Hatchery Conservation Center and last 30-40 minutes.

Join us to learn the most effective methods for dove hunting. We will discuss the biology of the bird and then teach you how to wing shoot using the Effective Wing Shooting for the Hunter techniques. We will discuss using decoys and how to use concealment to your benefit.

Location: Chesapeake Fish Hatchery

This beginners clinic will show you how to fish for lots of different species commonly found in farm ponds. Worms and equipment will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own! We will fish the Aquatic Education Pond on the Chesapeake Fish Hatchery near Mt. Vernon. Anyone 16 and over must have a valid fishing license and all ages are welcome to attend!

This program is for women only. Enjoy trout fishing and a fish fry at Roaring River State Park and Conservation Area. We will fish in our own privately stocked trout pool in the morning and then learn how to clean and fry trout for lunch. Make plans to join us for a great outdoor experience. Register and meet at the Nature Center. Transportation will be provided. Ages 12-adult. Girls 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult female. Discover the basics of archery shooting. We will cover things like bow nomenclature, hand set, bow set, pre-draw, stance, and much more and then go shooting on the static archery range. You may bring your own bow to the program or use ours.

Enjoy learning about fish while we practice the traditional art of Japanese fish printing. Bring a plain t-shirt, bandana, or other cotton textile to create a wearable work of art. We will make up to 3 prints. You supply the textiles. Ages 10-adult. Adult supervision required for ages 10-17.

Meet us at the Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center’s gazebo (next to the building) for a September stroll along the Wildcat Park trails while we hunt for natural objects in a scavenger hunt. The walk will be a little more than a mile and is rated easy. Please bring strollers for toddlers.
