This 90-minute video screening is co-sponsored by Grow Native!, Springfield Environmental Collaborative, Ozark Environment News, and the Springfield Yard Ethic Program. This is an educational documentary focused on showing how and why native plants are critical to the survival and vitality of local ecosystems. Featured is renowned entomologist Dr. Douglas Tallamy, whose research, books and lectures on the use of non-native plants in landscaping, sound the alarm about habitat and species loss. A panel discussion will follow the video. All ages.

While known for trout fishing, Roaring River State Park also has an array of hiking trails. Volunteer Brian Conry will help you become familiar with their trail system and hike the Fire Tower Trail. Meet at the Nature Center and carpool. Bring a sack lunch and water and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Hike is approximately five miles and rated moderate to difficult. Ages 18-adult.

We will meet at the Andy Dalton Shooting Rage for this program. Learn how to shoot .22-caliber rifles at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range at the Bois D’Arc Conservation Area. After classroom discussion, it is out to the range to practice and test your skills. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert shot, meet at the range and enjoy the fun! Refreshments will be provided. Ages 12-17.

Feeling crafty? It’s time for our annual natural and recycled craft night. We’ll make items that you can give as gifts during the holiday. Please bring a cloth tote bag, t-shirt, or plain bandana to print on, a bag to carry home all your items, and plenty of creativity! Please, no younger siblings and only one adult per group of kids. Ages 7-12.

Dutch ovens have a long and celebrated history spanning from Paul Revere, to Lewis and Clark, and into modern times. Come learn about this simple piece of cookware, how to use it, and sample some of the wonderful things that can be created in a Dutch Oven. This program is for women only. Girls 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult female. Ages 14-adult.
