Join us as we celebrate National Pollinator Week by participating in project ‘Bee Spotter’. We will learn about the importance of native bees as pollinators and then head outside to collect data that will be used to learn about bee populations in our area. Smart phone or camera recommended.

How does a bug make light? Battery acid? Alien soda? Perhaps its glow-in-the dark slime! “Lightning Bugs” are synonymous with a good time on those warm summer nights. Come on in to find out why & what fires up the beetles you see at night.

Join us for story hour as we lead you on fantastic nature adventures! We will meet birds, mammals and all sorts of magnificent creatures! We will cross rivers, discover mysteries within the forest and fly across the prairies. Our imaginations are the only limits.

Date: Saturday, June 29, 2019 - 6:00pm to 10:00pm

Location: Burr Oak Woods Conservation Nature Center

Learn how to catch channel, flathead and blue catfish in Missouri's farm ponds, lakes and rivers, then try your luck with a fishing opportunity at the Burr Oaks Woods educational pond. Afterwards, learn how to clean a catfish and sample a couple of catfish recipes during a cooking demonstration.

This event will take place at the Burr Oaks Woods educational pond and pavilion. Do not go to the nature center.

No fishing permit required to fish at this event.

Participants must be 7 years or older and participants under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Blinking and dancing in the evening sky, the magic and beauty of fireflies is breathtaking. Use this evening to learn more about these favorite insects, how you could register your own backyard for Firefly Watch (a fun citizen science program) and make a cool firefly craft. We will then hike into the darkening forest to watch the fireflies appear.
