No registration required (all ages) This winter we will be participating in the citizen scientist project ‘Project Feeder Watch’. Help us collect data that The Cornell Lab will use to track broad scale movements and populations of winter birds. Birders of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair of ours.

Missouri River Bird Observatory staff and Burr Oak Woods partner in an on-going project to identify and track the birds that come to our feeders each winter. From the resident chickadees and cardinals to the migrating juncos and sparrows, we capture, apply colored bands, and release these fascinating creatures. Once banded and recorded, you will be able to track individual birds through this and future seasons. This program is weather permitting.

As you explore outdoors, have you ever come across an animal skull? A skull will give you all the evidence you need to identify which animal it came from. Teeth, eye sockets, and even the overall shape of a skull can provide great clues. Come on in and use new skills to identify the skulls of a few of Missouri’s wild animals.

In our culture of a supermarket in every neighborhood, it is almost magical and spectacular to be able to make something delicious to eat out of some liquid flowing out of a tree. Savor this wonder of nature by learning how to tap trees, collect sap, and make delicious syrup from native trees. A portion of the program (15-25 minutes) will be outside, dress for the weather. Registration required for all attending.
