Poet, essayist, and University of Kansas professor, Megan Kaminski, leads participants through the complexities of nature writing in this workshop. Hosted at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, this unique opportunity helps writers sharpen their skills while deepening their connection with nature. This event is in celebration Aldo Leopold Weekend.

Mushrooms are a delight for animals and people alike! Explore the realm of the fungi and learn what role they play in our environment and which may be a good addition to your dinner plate. We will be joined by Kansas City Mycological Society President, Brittany Martinez. Foray hike in the woods of Burr Oak Woods to follow presentation (bring bag suitable for mushroom collecting if attending hike).

Does that baby animal need help? Join us as we continue learning about animal moms and their babies. This month special guests from Wild Souls Rehab & Rescue share some tips on determining if that baby animal requires “rescuing” or not.

Missouri River Bird Observatory staff and Burr Oak Woods partner in an on-going project to identify and track the birds that come to our feeders each winter. From the resident chickadees and cardinals to the migrating juncos and sparrows, we capture, apply colored bands, and release these fascinating creatures. Once banded and recorded, you will be able to track individual birds through this and future seasons. This program is weather permitting.
