Activities will include Shotgun Patterning, Crossbow, Hunting Techniques , and Fishing. Participants in the clinic are also eligible to participate in a mentored hunt during youth weekend ( limited availability) Registering for the clinic does not automatically register you for the hunt! Location: Cuivre River State Park

This workshop will include a 3 hour classroom session on prescribed fire methods, equipment, safety, and planning considerations. Weather permitting, a demonstration burn will be conducted afterwards. Lunch will be provided. Come prepared to participate on the burn. Attendees should bring field clothing (cotton or wool; no synthetics), leather boots and gloves, to wear for the demonstration burn. Naturally resilient Missouri native plants are great for home landscaping. They solve common gardening problems and attract a variety of wildlife. Many of them are extremely important to ensure pollinators, like the Monarch Butterfly, survive. Come and learn about what natives might work best in your gardens. We’ll even get you started with some native seedlings to take home with you, just in time for spring planting.

This program will introduce turkey hunting techniques and calling tips for beginners as well as advanced instruction for turkey hunting. We will cover habitat, safety, firearms, different calls, when to call, how often to call, and different types of equipment used to help you have a successful hunt.

This program is designed for those who have experience with shotguns and want to learn the sport of trap shooting. We will start in the classroom covering safety, appropriate firearms and ammunition, rules of the game, etiquette on the field, and field lay out. We will then head to the field to test your new skill. Firearm and ammunition will be provided or you may bring your own.

This is an introductory course on how to shoot 5-stand. The program will start in the classroom where you will learn safety, stance, etiquette, and technique. Afterwards the program will proceed to live fire on the 5-stand course. Firearms, ammunition, and safety equipment will be provided.

Location: Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center

(Ages 6 and up) Missouri is “just ducky!” The state’s lakes, rivers, ponds, streams and marshes are full of ducks to observe and enjoy. Do ducks migrate? Where are they in the food chain? How do different ducks live? Some ducks “dabble” around near the shore, but others dive deep underwater to find food. Want to learn more? Let’s get down and “ducky” today!

This introduction course to shotguns will start in the Education Center where we will discuss safety, actions, chokes, stance, and how choose and shoot shotguns. Next, we will go to the range for live fire, including some clay target shooting. Not recommended for students under 90 lbs.

Join us to discover the joys of shotgun shooting. We will discuss shotgun nomenclature, stance, dominant eye, mounting, moving the shotgun, and much more. You may use our shotguns or plan to use your own. Please make sure your shotgun is completely unloaded before arriving.
