Spring is here and the crappie are biting! Tying your own crappie jigs is a fun and easy way to add to your tackle selection. You will learn how to use fly tying equipment, basic tying skills, and then tie a couple of crappie jigs. MDC will provide participants with a vise and tool kit to use during the class, along with all of the materials needed to make two crappie jigs. If you have your own vise and tools, you are more than welcome to bring them to use.

: Please make sure to record all usernames and passwords you create, because they cannot be looked up. Upon registration you will be emailed a link to the virtual/online portion of the prescribed burn course within one week. The online course is a mandatory prerequisite. You must print and bring your certificate of completion and mileage sheet to the workshop. Weather permitting, we will try to conduct a demo burn. Attendees should plan on having appropriate PPE to include leather gloves, leather boots and ALL cotton clothing such as denim or Carhartt-type garments. A cotton bandanna is also advisable. Refreshments will be provided.

The Deep Roots Demonstration Garden features Midwest native plants suitable for the home garden. Enjoy a naturalist-led garden tour following the end of the session. Discover Nature Fishing Lesson 2

Participants will learn intermediate fishing techniques and skills. Participants will be taught how to tie an improved clinch knot and how to properly secure a variety of baits to various types of hooks.

All fishing gear will be provided by the instructors. Please wear clothing and close-toed shoes suitable for outdoor and water activities. It is recommended that participants bring sunglasses, a water bottle, and sunscreen.

This class is for Children and Families of all ages! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

All participants who complete all 4 Discover Nature Fishing Lessons will go home with a free fishing reward to encourage fishing with the family.

To register your child, you may need to make a family account, or add them to an existing family account. You can also make you child their own, separate account.

The Basics of the Modern Sporting Rifle (AR type) course is designed to provide beginners a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to modern sporting rifle shooting. This course includes classroom and range time. Students will learn rules for safe gun handling at home, in the field and on the range; rifle actions, parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, cleaning the rifle, and continued opportunities for developing rifle skills. Student, please bring your own modern rifle. We will supply the ammo.
