Basics of the Modern Sporting Rifle (AR)

The Basics of the Modern Sporting Rifle (AR type) course is designed to provide beginners a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to modern sporting rifle shooting. This course includes classroom and range time. Students will learn rules for safe gun handling at home, in the field and on the range; rifle actions, parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, cleaning the rifle, and continued opportunities for developing rifle skills.

Shotshell Reloading
January 21 • Tuesday • 6-8 p.m.
(Ages 16 and up)

Here is your opportunity to learn the process of reloading shotgun shells using simple equipment. The technique is easy and may save you money over the cost of factory ammunition. We will produce quality shotshells with low-cost equipment. This program covers the needed equipment, materials, and techniques used to reload shot shell.

Introduction to Firearms
January 29 • Tuesday • 6pm-8pm
(Ages 11 and up)

If you are not familiar or comfortable with firearms, this is an educational introduction to firearms. Join our staff as we look at various types of firearms including rifles, shotguns and handguns. We will examine the various types of actions and provide a hands-on demonstration of their working mechanisms. The presentation will include basic safety, home security, and general maintenance. This is a classroom program and does not include live shooting.

Firearms Care & Cleaning
February 4 • Tuesday • 6pm – 8pm
(Ages 11 and up)
Reservations begin January 21
One of the most important aspects of having a firearm is making sure your firearm is maintained and in good working condition. We will discuss needed supplies and equipment and how to properly dismantle and maintain your firearms. We will also go over the various techniques needed to clean different types of firearms. After a discussion, we will have stations set up for some hands-on experience. We will clean pistols, shotguns and rifles.

Antler Scoring Open House
February 8 • Saturday • 9am – 12, noon
(All ages)
No reservations required
Now that your antlers have dried for the required 60 days, it is time to check the official score of that big rack. We will have official scorers on duty. You may also bring shed antlers to be scored. Antlers do not have to be from this past season, any previous rack can be scored. Bring your antlers to the Education Center and see what your antlers scores!

Metallic Cartridge Reloading
February 27 • Thursday • 6-9 p.m.
(Ages 16 and up)
Reservation begin February 17
This class covers the basic equipment, materials, and techniques needed to reload metallic cartridges and produce custom loads suited to your rifle/handgun for the particular target or game you are pursing. We will demonstrate the process and then give you some hands-on experience reloading rifle/handgun cartridges. All equipment is provided.
