The alligator gar is called the “king” of fish. He is a wonder to behold. Not only does he have impressive teeth but scales that are like chain mail. Historically, the scales have been used for arrow heads, tools, and jewelry. We will learn some amazing facts about this “monster” and use their scales in a couple of projects. Program is free.

Thanks to some amazing animal care volunteers, they are fed a delicious smorgasbord of crickets, worms, minnows, and more! Drop by to visit with the volunteers and staff as they feed the hungry critters. Youth and adult groups welcome.

Help us monitor the health of a local stream by conducting a Stream Team survey. Get an up-close look at some of the cool creatures that call stream ecosystems home. We will be wading so please wear clothing and closed-toed shoes that can get wet.

Come on out to the Cape Nature Center Kid’s Pond and get the chance to learn the basics of catfishing. Participants will learn all about catfish, which includes their basic biology, their habitat, and what kind of bait to use when fishing for them.
All equipment will be provided for the participants to use.
