The bright red of Indian paintbrush colors our native prairies and glades. You may also find it in fields, seepy areas, wet soil along streams, and moist thickets.

Young barred owls are leaving their nests in hollow trees this month. Look for them exploring on branches, even in daylight.

Males and some females are yellow with black stripes, while some females are dark and resemble pipevine swallowtails. All are gorgeous!
